Purpose of Membership

WBMC’s membership program aims to create a unified, active, and empowered Muslim community in West Berkshire. By offering options for both financial and voluntary contributions, we welcome every individual to participate in the growth and success of our Centre, regardless of their financial capacity.

Membership Goals

  • Strengthen community ties and increase participation.
  • Support the operational and development needs of WBMC.
  • Encourage volunteerism and Islamic brotherhood/sisterhood.
  • Provide a clear structure for communication, engagement, and governance.
  • Provide financial support towards the running of the centre (means for Sadaqah and Sadaqah Jariyah).

Members may contribute through a financial donation and/or a volunteer commitment. Volunteer hours must be logged and approved monthly. Membership is, by default, for the entire family.

 Volunteer Opportunities

  • Prayer Logistics: Support with coordination for Jumu’ah, Eid, Tarawih, and solar/lunar eclipse (Kusuf/Khusuf) prayers, as well as general prayer arrangements.
  • Education: Administrative support, tutoring (Arabic, English, Quran, Islamic studies), and teaching assistance.
  • Outreach and Interfaith: Assisting with community outreach initiatives and interfaith programmes.
  • Social Events: Setting up and managing events such as Eid celebrations, Ramadan Iftars, youth activities, community shared-meal events, and ladies’ coffee mornings.
  • Sports Activities: Support with organising and managing sports sessions (football, CrossFit, cricket, badminton, etc.).
  • Centre Maintenance: General upkeep and minor maintenance duties.
  • Cleaning: Helping maintain cleanliness throughout the Centre.
  • Administration: General administrative duties and office support.
  • Finance and Accountancy: Assisting with bookkeeping, financial organisation, and related tasks.
  • IT and Technical Support: Support with IT systems, services, and troubleshooting.
  • PR, Marketing, and Communications: Assisting with publicity, social media, marketing materials, and community communications.
  • Fundraising: Supporting fundraising campaigns and related activities..

 Islamic Foundation

  • “The most beloved of people to Allah is the one who brings the most benefit to people.” (Al-Tabarani)

  • “Whoever relieves a hardship of a believer in this world, Allah will relieve one of his hardships on the Day of Judgment.” (Sahih Muslim)

Whether contributing money or time, both are acts of Saddaqah and are essential for the success of our Centre.

 Governance & Rights

  • Active Members and above may vote in AGM and key decisions.
  • A Shura (consultation) panel will be formed from Supporters and Patrons for programme planning and feedback.
  • Annual reports and updates will be shared with all members.

 Membership Sign-Up & Tracking

  • Members can sign up online or in-person.
  • Monthly volunteer logs will be submitted and reviewed.
  • Donations managed securely via standing order or online payments.
  • Member engagement tracked via events, classes, and feedback forms.
  • Members are required to provide their name and address and to indicate whether they consent to the centre/mosque claiming Gift Aid on their behalf, in accordance with HMRC regulations.

 Recognition & Retention

  • Annual “Member of the Year” awards.
  • Certificate of appreciation for consistent contributors.
  • Quarterly updates with stories, stats, and upcoming opportunities.
