Welcome to the West Berkshire Muslim Centre!
Our community has over 2000 Muslims and has been rapidly growing recently, with families settling in and calling this ‘home’. We have many nationalities (British, Albanian, Portuguese, Pakistani, Bangladeshi, Indian, Egyptian, Moroccan, Tunisian, Algerians, Zimbabwean, and much more), and we have an urgent need to establish solid foundations for the Islamic and moral future of our children.
At the present moment, we are renting a part of a community centre and have a small mosque and Islamic school (Madrasah) serving Newbury, Thatcham, Thale and the wider West Berkshire community, but this can not be a long-term solution. We wish to have a centre where we can pray, provide Islamic education, hold Maths and English classes for our children, undertake sports activities (such as football, cricket, CrossFit and badminton), and have a regular point of contact with the statutory services (Police, Ambulance, Fire, NHS, housing associations, Town Council etc.) where we can provide assistance and reassurance to those in need, promote cultural understanding by inviting others (of any faith or none at all) to associate and share points of view.
We need a Centre, and we’re looking to raise funds to buy an existing building or land and then build upon that for our and future generations and are looking to raise at least £400,000, allowing us to either purchase a building or acquire suitable land upon which to build.
We have the desire to incorporate these activities in a central location, so we have a ‘home’.
Our Vision is to have a facility where we can establish the following services:
- Prayer facilities
- Islamic education and school
- Ramadan activities
- Eid Celebration
- Community activities
- Youth Club
- Social Activities
- Representation within statutory services
